Communication is Part of the Art: A Comfort & Safety PSA from Satori Tattoo Collective

At Satori Tattoo Collective, we believe a great tattoo or piercing experience goes far beyond the final result. It’s about how you feel during the process, physically, mentally, and emotionally.

That’s why we want to be clear about something important: communication is always important here.

This post is a gentle PSA and reminder that your comfort, safety, and well-being are just as important as the art itself.

Your Comfort Always Comes First

Tattooing and piercing are intense experiences for the body. Even seasoned clients can have off days, unexpected reactions, or moments where they need to pause.

If you need a break, to change positions, or to stretch—please say so.

There is no pressure to “power through,” and you are never inconveniencing your artist by advocating for yourself.

A relaxed client makes for a better experience for everyone.

Breaks, Position Changes & Pausing Are Normal

Holding certain positions for extended periods can be uncomfortable, especially during longer sessions. If something doesn’t feel right:

• Let us know if you need to adjust your position

• Ask for a short break

• Speak up if you’re feeling tense, cramped, or overwhelmed

We’re happy to pause and reset. Tattooing and piercing are collaborative processes, and your body is part of that collaboration.

Eating Matters More Than You Think

One of the most common issues we see during tattoo and piercing appointments is low blood sugar.

If you haven’t eaten beforehand, feel lightheaded, shaky, nauseous, or suddenly anxious—tell your artist immediately. These reactions are common and manageable, especially when addressed early.

We may recommend:

• Taking a break

• Drinking water

• Having a snack

• Lying back or changing position

There’s no judgment here—just care.

Health Conditions & Medications Help Us Help You

Your artist doesn’t need every detail of your medical history, but certain information can help us create a safer, more comfortable session.

Please let us know if you have:

• Any medical conditions that may affect your session

• Medications that impact bleeding, pain response, or healing

• Sensitivities to needles, blood, or prolonged procedures

• A history of fainting or low blood pressure

This information allows us to adjust pacing, positioning, and aftercare recommendations with your safety in mind.

You’re Not Being “Difficult” by Speaking Up

We want to be very clear about this:

You are not interrupting. You are not being dramatic. You are not being a burden.

Advocating for your needs is encouraged at Satori Tattoo Collective. Open communication builds trust, creates better results, and ensures your experience is one you feel good about from start to finish.

A Safer Session Starts With Communication

Our goal is to provide a space that feels calm, respectful, and supportive—whether it’s your first tattoo or your twentieth.

If something feels off, uncomfortable, or overwhelming at any point during your appointment, please tell us. We’re here to listen, adjust, and take care of you.

Because at the end of the day, this is your body, your experience, and your story.
